When will Region IV regain creditability?
The three leading teams is Region IV (Refugio, Rice Consolidated and Blanco) have been less than impressive. Over the past seven years both teams from Region IV have been ripped in the semifinals. Division II schools have loss by an average of 30 points over the last 7 years and the Division I scores averaged a negative 20. The closest a Region IV has come to winning a game in that period was in 2003 when Comfort lost to San Augustine 21-14 and Rogers lost to Garrison 16-13.
I have personally watched five of the fourteen games and Region IV lost by an average of 43-15. The only game I watched to the end was Salado’s 41-31 loss to Tatum.
I don’t think Region IV will be a factor in the next few years unless one of the fast growing districts near Austin breaks the string.
