Here are the updated State Championship season stats for all Largest Classification State Champs going back to the first season the UIL had an official football playoff tournament back in 1920.
I would say that Allen arguably played one of the toughest schedules of any previous state champ. I don't have the final season record for Monterrey Tech but even without that, Allen is the first state champ who's combined opponents records hit 130 wins. They played an unprecedented 7 opponents who ended the season with at least 12 wins. The 41 combined losses by Allen's 15 American opponents is the fewest of any state champ since 1990. Katy is the first State Champ to actually be shut out in a game earlier in the season and still win a title since Odessa Permian played to a 0-0 tie with Sherman in 1980. The last State Champ to lose a game in a shutout was Brazoswood in 1974 when they lost to Lufkin 0-15. Note: the opponents season records do NOT include the games played against the state champ in question. Thus, even though Trinity went 13-1-0 in 2008, their 1-1-0 record against Allen was subtracted from their record, which is why they are listed as 12-0-0 in 2008. |
