The rumors are floating and UIL has already said that they may change 5A to D1 & D2 brackets because of the numbers that seperate some of the schools. This is very sensitive to may 5A fans who want there to continue to be only one 5A champion. Who all has their take on the pros and cons of this possibility????

The UIL has not made changes to the 5A realignment. The UIL Board must approve the plan before it will be implemented. I'm sure the UIL staff is considering options.
One of the more “practical” ways to place all of the schools in the proper Division is simple unless you work at the UIL. However, some coaches will bark because they will not know whom they will play until after the last District game is played statewide. For those coaches I say play and win them all and you have no worries.

This is the procedure.
1. All 5A schools will play in a district configuration as we have now.
2. Four teams (128 total) will qualify for the play-offs.
3. The largest 64 schools will be placed into Division I and the smallest 64 will be placed into Division II.
4. The Divisions will be divided into four regions according to location.
5. Effort will be made to prevent district rivals form playing in the first two rounds.

 Using the current enrollment figures and Dave Campbell’s picks the dividing enrollment would be 2,639.
 This would place 17 Region I teams, 19 Region II teams, 14 Region III teams and 14 Region IV teams in Division II.
 Cedar Hill would play in Region II (Dallas area).
 A&M Consolidated, Lufkin, College Park and Klein Oak would play in Region III (Houston/Beaumont area).
 Two of the Fort Bend ISD schools would play in Region IV (San Antonio/South Texas).
 The movement would be in the other direction for Division I.
 If Dave Campbell’s picks are correct, 21 of the 32 District Champions would be playing in Division II and 13 of the top 25 would play in Division II.

Is it necessary?

Great breakdown Oldman. And, as I said, this is a possibility. Wasn't meaning to get people to think this was already in progress. I was just curios of how the 5A people were taking this possibility. I know that Lufkin said that they really do not care either way. I think that the biggest gripe that I have heard is the drives that it may cost some of these teams if this takes affect. i know that some of them said they welcomed the possible change because of some of the number differences between some of the teams.
