UIL football rule changes for 2009 season.
There are a few rule changes by the University Interscholastic League for this high school football season. Line of scrimmage - Seven players no longer have to be on the line of scrimmage. Teams just can't have more than 4 in the backfield. Jerseys - During the regular season the home team may wear the white jerseys if the teams have agreed in writing prior to the start of the season. Blocking - The blocking zone is now a rectangle centered on the snapper and extending 5 yards laterally (sideways) and 3 yards longitudinally ("north" and "south") in each direction. The Box - The tackle box is now the rectangle enclosed by the two lines parallel to the sidelines 5 yards from the snapper and Team A's end line - the neutral zone. End of Quarter - The period won't be extended if time expires during a play when there is a penalty which includes loss of down. Face Mask - No player shall twist, turn or pull the face mask, chin strap or any helmet opening of an opponent. It is not a foul if the face mask, chin strap or helmet opening is not twisted, turned or pulled. Kicker - The kicker loses his protection if he carries the ball outside the tackle box before kicking it. |
