I have an old coaching friend that lives in Northeast Texas and he has said continuously since Carthage dropped to AAA that they were a sleeping giant and only needed a coach to wake them up. The Bulldogs were always tough back in the 80’s and 90’s when Sleepy Reynolds was taking one of the smallest AAAA teams in Northeast Texas deep into the playoffs every year. Scott Surratt’s Carthage Bulldogs beat an excellent Gilmer team and it appears that this sleeping dog is awake. That does not bode well for their future opponents in Northeast Texas and class AAA.
